At times, we know something is wrong, but don't quite have the words for it. Sometimes you are just stressed or maybe easily angered. Perhaps it is a struggle with self-esteem or feeling uncomfortable in your own skin. Maybe the issue exhibits itself in your choice of people you engage with or by the way you interact in relationships. Perhaps you are wondering if you have an addiction to alcohol or drugs, but aren't sure.
Whatever way your struggles are showing themselves in your life, therapy in this setting provides an accepting, supportive environment for exploration and change. Therapy can increase the confidence necessary to explore your thoughts and feelings, gain awareness about patterns or habits, and learn new strategies for change. The benefits of this work can be displayed by improved relationships, breaking the cycles of addiction, increased self-esteem, a decrease in the common signs of anxiety or depression, and more confidence in problem-solving.
What can you expect at your first appointment? Generally, the first session is spent getting to know each other and finding out what you are hoping to gain from therapy. Any questions or concerns about therapy are welcome.
